About the event

Join us in supporting the work of Jacari, a charity providing free tutoring and extracurricular activities for migrant, asylum-seeking, and refugee children.

Tour Description:

Why is being ‘medieval’ seen as an insult? Why are we fascinated with the idea of 'horrible histories'?

  • Modern media has fostered the stereotype that people in the Middle Ages were uniquely backwards, superstitious, violent, dirty, and barbaric. Join us on a tour about Medieval Oxford -  highlighting histories of prejudice and bloodshed, while debunking the myths of 'medieval' times. The tour will explore long-lasting connections between the past and the present,and discuss how some medieval issues are relevant to this day.

About Jacari: Jacari is a local charity that provides free 1:1 tuition for local children and young people aged 6-16 from migrant, asylum seeking and refugee backgrounds who speak English as an Additional Language. Our partner schools refer to us newly arrived pupils most…
